We discovered the beautiful, remote Mavora Lakes in Fiordland during one of our camper van trips into the lower South Island. More than 30kms up a rough gravel road we came across an impressive landscape of mountains, lakes, forest and tussock grassland. This awe-inspiring area was a filming location for some scenes in the Lord of the Rings film series and is recognised as part of the Te Wāhipounamu/South-West New Zealand World Heritage Area.
